In a game where many artists are busy chasing trends, upcoming Zimbabwean artist MCY Ghost is stepping into the ring with smoke in his lungs and something to say.

Currently promoting his latest single Gangster, a track he openly describes as a diss record, MCY Ghost is not whispering his frustrations, he is turning them into bars. And according to the rising artist, the shots fired are aimed directly at some of the entertainment industry’s “big guns.”
Coming from humble beginnings, MCY Ghost says music became his language at just 17 years old, heavily inspired by his uncles who were artists themselves. But for him, rap was never just about rhythm.
“My music journey started when I chose to stop venting and trying to make the next person understand me,” he says. “I then decided to express myself and bleed through lyrics.”
That raw honesty seems to fuel Gangster, a track carrying more than just controversy. MCY Ghost says his frustration lies with influential figures in the industry who, in his view, have failed to uplift the next generation.

“I am pointing big guns at these big names that are responsible for creating unity, inspiring and uplifting youngings in the entertainment industry but rather ripping off the underprivileged through selfishness, factions, greed and gatekeeping,” he says.
Still, beyond the tension and lyrical warfare, MCY Ghost believes Zimbabwean hip hop has potential. He applauds artists pushing their own movements but argues that unity remains the missing ingredient.
According to him, the culture needs corporate thinking, collaboration and long-term vision if Zimbabwean hip hop is to move beyond local applause and command global attention.

Whether Gangster sparks debate, backlash or breakthrough, one thing is certain: MCY Ghost has entered the conversation, and he is making noise with purpose.
