In the backstreets of Houghton Park and Waterfalls, a quiet grind has been taking place for years.
Shuzeff Entertainment, an independent hip hop label run by two determined artists, Prince Kudzie and Big Muzzy is proving that consistency, even without instant stardom, is still a statement.
Formed and registered as a company by the duo, Shuzeff is more than just a name on a flyer. It's a fully-fledged operation rooted in DIY hustle and street-level belief.
Prince Kudzie and Big Muzzy have each put in over five years in the game, shaping a sound and a brand from scratch. While mainstream recognition has been elusive, they briefly shook the algorithm with Prayer, a track featuring the ever-versatile Michael Magz.
The video currently clocks over 150k views on YouTube marking a breakout moment that also marked the beginning and end of a promising collaboration.
For a while, Michael Magz found creative refuge at Shuzeff following his split from Samanyanga Sounds, the label of Holy Ten. But as the story often goes in hip hop, chemistry and conflict tend to walk hand in hand and the relationship fizzled out.
Now, with focus redirected to their own sound, Prince Kudzie and Big Muzzy have just dropped a sharp, introspective EP titled Madzishe muJunge a Leekay produced project that translates to Kings of the Jungle.
The EP is a bold declaration of intent as it is gritty in delivery and very much in conversation with the streets they represent.
And while we won’t say they’ve got friends in high places, let’s just say the boss at Riddims and Raps might have their number on speed dial. Stay close, this could be the beginning of something louder.
